22 Eerie and Awesome Abandoned Movie Sets (We Can't Believe #14 Still Exists!)

It's not uncommon for moviemakers to leave behind sets and props after they've finished filming. For example, this helicopter crash scene from "Zero Dark Thirty" remained in place in India long after the the action wrapped.

The discarded movie artifacts get ever weirder in the following photos.

This is a photo from the slums of District 12. These scenes were filmed in an already abandoned textile community at Henry River Mill Village, North Carolina, from around the 1920s.

The scenes for Port Royale from "The Pirates of the Caribbean" were filmed in Wallilabou Bay on the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean Sea. It still looks like a bona-fide village with cannons and village.

Even though this is just a set, the Bates Motel is still a nerve-wracking reminder of the twisted history of Norman Bates in his pre-"Psycho" years. The site still stands eerily in nearby Aldergrove, British Columbia.

4. BATMAN (1989)

7. BIG FISH (2003)

This is the remains of the town Spectre from "Big Fish." From the looks of it, the set was left on purpose to haunt you as it slowly, if ever, turns to dust.

The iconic Mars-like Tattoine set still stands in the Grande Dunes of Tunisia and Morocco. Ultra-dry conditions allow sets from the original movies and the prequels to still exist somewhat untouched in the desert.
